Until the mid-19th century, the powerful Comanche nation controlled a vast stretch of Texas and New Mexico. This history recounts the intertwined fates of their last leader, Quanah Parker, son of the chief Peta Nocona and a white woman, Cynthia Ann Parker, and his nemesis, the ruthless Civil War veteran Ranald ‘Bad Hand†Mackenzie, in the brutal wars that spelled the beginning of the end for Native Americans.
