Gussie Fink-Nottle’s appreciation of the common newt is unparalleled, but introduce him to a girl and watch him turn pink, as he does with doe-eyed Madeline Bassett. In this predecessor to Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves, Gussie’s chum Tuppy Glossop isn’t getting on much better with Madeline’s friend Angela. Bertie Wooster can’t sit idly by; the happiness of two pals is at stake. Yet his best-laid plans land everyone in the soup, so it’s just as well that Jeeves is ever at hand.
