Henri Charriere

First published in 1969 and filmed with Steve McQueen in the lead role, Henri Charrières semi-autobiographical narrative recalls his wrongful conviction for murder in Paris, his transportation to a penal colony in French Guiana, and his daring escape in an open boat. He also describes his recapture and eight further bids for freedom, including one from the notorious Devils Island, before his final release to a new life in Venezuela.
